Trip to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

Conservation Education Centre -BNHS with the help of De Doers Saga Foundation takes 15 underprivileged children from various schools from a development colony called JJ Colony, near Yamuna bank in New Delhi to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. The trip was funded by the Hem Chand Mahindra Foundation(HCMF).

This program is a part of our 2 year long educational program with underprivileged children from colonies around the protected area. We have been sensitizing the young minds who live around the forest on various topics relating to bio-diversity and conservation of nature. Currently we do 1 program each month for the past two years, where students are exposed to birds, butterflies, native trees, seed collection, gardening, waste management through nature walks, workshops and Eco-day celebrations. The idea of the program is to provide in depth knowledge and hands on training with a dose of fun things to do outside. We try and instill the idea of nature conservation through awareness and activism and hope the younger generation can challenge and change things happening around them.

This program is supported by donations from Hem Chand Mahindra Foundation and we deeply appreciate their generous contribution and guidance to our cause. The highlights of this years program have been a educational trip to Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur and the fact that the winners of the painting competition will be awarded their prizes by the Honorable Minister of Environment and Forest, Mr. Prakash Javedekar.at a Delhi Forest Department Function on World Forestry Day (20th March) at CEC-Delhi.

For future, we would like to extend our program to Manger village in Haryana, bordering the sanctuary and engage with the only school there to work towards nature conservation. With so much of area around Manger still a pristine Aravalli forest, the stakes are higher and our effort imperative.
